PIOCIN-200
Sparfloxacin INN 200 mg Tablet

Drescription:
Piocin-200 is a synthetic, broad-sprectrum antibacterial agent from the difluoroquinolone family. It has been reported to be more active in vitro than ciprofloxacin against some organisms, including Staphylococcai and Mycobacteria, and has a much longer plasma half-life (16 hours)

Composition:
Each film coated Piocin-200 tablet contains Sparfloxacin INN 200 mg.

Indications:
Piocin-200 is indicated for the treatment of the following infections due to susceptible micro-
Urinary tract infections, including gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis, chancroid and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Skin and soft tissue infections:
Prophylactic use in different urological and ophthalmic operations.

Dosage and administration:
The recommended daily adult dose is two tablets (400mg) on 1st day as a loading dose, followed by one tablet (200mg) daily as a maintenance dose. Duration of maintenance treatment is 5 to 10 days. It can be taken with or without food.

Children, pregnant & lactating mother:
Below 12 years of children not recommended. Piocin-200 should be administered in pregnant women & lactating mother only if the potential maternal benefits justify the risks to the foetus/neonate.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones including Sparfloxacin.

Precautions:
Renal disease, gastric ulcers, concomitant use of NSAID's avoid exposure of UV radiation during treatment. In renal failure of third degree severity (creatinine clearance 30ml/min) dosage modification is recommended 400mg on 1st day, 200 mg on 2nd & 3rd day followed by 200 mg every 48 hours.


Adverse effects:
Side effects are mild, transient and seldom. These are allergic reactions; photosensitization; GIT (gastro-intestinal tract) disorders including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea; headache & sleep disturbance at the start of treatment.

Drug interactions:
Quinidine; sotalol; erythromycin; astemizole; terfenadine; vinca alkaloids. Salts, oxides & hydroxides of Mg, AI & Ca decrease absorption of Sparfloxacin.

Packing:
Box containing 1 x 6's tablets in Alu/Alu blister pack.
